There are three specific types of IPN Chapters. The first is called a Community Service Unit.
This is defined as an organization consisting of one (1) IPN Instructor (Monitor) functioning as operator and two other monitors to assist in the operation.
Community Service Units exist to:
- Provide communities with disaster preparedness information.

Limited basic training.

Recovery assistance (in some cases) in the form of light first aid, water (shelter if possible) food (if possible)

Emergency communications in the form of ham radio operation.
